Honorary Freemanship Awarded To John Della Bosca

The Shire of Westonia recently held a function during Local Government Week in Perth taking the opportunity to award John Della Bosca an Honorary Freemanship of the shire.

The award was bestowed on John in recognition of his excellent service to the Westonia Council and the community. This service included

Councillor for 30 years 7 months - May 1977 to October 2007. (John is the third longest serving Councillor for the Council, only behind C.A. Perrin 34 years and C.J. Della Bosca 33 years respectively.) Shire President for 7 years 1996 to 2003 Chief Bush Fire Control Officer 25 years November 1982 to October 2007. Fire Control Officer 2 years 1981 to 1982 Captain 1 year 1980 Lieutenant 4 years 1975 to 1979 ROAC/DOAC representative 25 years 1982 to 2007. Toal bush fire voluntary service is 32 years.

John is Westonia’s inaugural Freeman during 92 years of Council history. This presentation followed an earlier ‘Distinguished Service Award’ presented to John by the Western Australia Local Government Association at the Local Government Week conference.

Over 40 people attended the function which included family members, current and past Councillors and partners and several staff members who worked during John’s term.

Shire President Cr Louis Geier presented John with his certificate of Freemanship and Presidents Gavel at the Celebration Dinner.
